Report: Spurs have submitted an offer for 22-year-old centre-back

Football Insider have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have made a bid for Oxford United defender Luke McNally.

McNally has made a big impression at Oxford since signing in January of last year from Irish first-tier side St Patrick’s Athletic.

The 22-year-old’s solid displays at the back for the League One side have allegedly attracted attention from several top clubs.

Football Insider have claimed that Tottenham have been alerted to the potential of the centre-back and have sent scouts to watch him regularly this season.

It is explained that the defender is also of interest to rival clubs, which is why the Lilywhites are stepping up their interest. The report claims that Spurs have already submitted one offer worth around £2m for McNally.

It is suggested that Oxford are likely to cash in on the centre-back when the transfer window reopens and are hoping to get a bidding war going for the youngster.

It is a little strange that McNally is already 22 as promising young talents are snapped up by big clubs in their teens these days. Perhaps, the Irishman is a late developer. I would not be surprised if Spurs sign the centre-back and loan him back out to a lower league club.
