Report: Spurs have the option to extend 22-year-old’s contract by an extra year

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have an option to extend Troy Parrott’s contract by a further year.

While Parrott failed to hit the expected heights in his series of loan spells in the Championship and League One over the last three years, the striker appears to have come off age since his temporary move to the Excelsior Rotterdam last summer.

The 22-year-old has not looked back since breaking into Excelsior’s starting eleven, with seven goals and three assists in 20 Eredivisie appearances so far (Transfermarkt).

The42 reported at the start of this month that several Dutch clubs, including Ajax, PSV Eindhoven, Feyenoord and AZ Alkmaar, are plotting moves for the Republic of Ireland international ahead of next summer.

A couple of weeks ago, Football Insider suggested that Tottenham are yet to make a final decision on the striker’s future but the feeling is that they would be open to selling him for the right price.

Interest mounting in Tottenham’s Troy Parrott

Gold has now suggested that the interest in Parrott’s services is now growing, with clubs from Serie A, Eredivisie and the Championship now thought to be following the player’s situation closely.

The journalist further points out that although the 22-year-old’s current deal at Spurs runs out in 2025, the North London side have an option to extend it by another 12 months.

Whether or not Parrott has a future at Tottenham under Postecoglou, one would expect the club to activate the option to extend his contract in order to preserve his market value. I suspect Postecoglou will want to take a closer look at the Irishman during pre-season before deciding on his future.
