Report: Spurs have ‘touched base’ about Maddison deal – ‘Would not be impossible’

Journalist Dean Jones has revealed Tottenham Hotspur have explored a move for James Maddison this summer but added that the Leicester City star might be too expensive for the North London club.

Despite already making six new signings this summer, Spurs are thought to be on the lookout for another centre-back and a creative midfielder (Evening Standard).

Reports over recent days have indicated that Maddison, who has two years left on his contract at the King Power Stadium, is one of the options that Antonio Conte’s men have their eye on (Done Deal Show).

However, on his YouTube Channel this week, Alasdair Gold warned Spurs fans not to get too excited about the speculation about the Leicester star, explaining that everyone he has spoken to at Tottenham is playing down the idea of the signing of the 25-year-old.

Jones has now revealed that Spurs have ‘touched base’ over Maddison but suggested that the Foxes’ asking price could be prohibitive for Conte’s men.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “I’m told Spurs have touched base over Maddison and a deal would not be impossible but it would cost them a lot of money. Probably more than they would want to spend. But you never know, the door isn’t closed.”

I would be quite surprised if we spent big on Maddison, given that an attacking midfielder will only likely be a rotational player under Conte. However, having said that, Spurs still have plenty of money to spend this summer, given that the club’s pursuit of Bastoni seemingly fell through.
