Report: Spurs hold increasing interest in 26-goal forward as potential Harry Kane replacement

Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Darwin Nunez is ’emerging in strength’ according to today’s print edition of A Bola (31/3/22).

The Portuguese news outlet claims that Tottenham have increased their interest in the Benfica forward following the fact that are ‘considering selling’ star man Harry Kane this summer.

Tottenham are said to have tracked the progress of the 22-year-old forward since his days at Spanish club Almeira with Jose Mourinho having been keen to bring him to north London in 2020, however, the club did not have the funds at the time and ended up joining Benfica.

The Portuguese giants are expected to command a fee in the region of €60m (£50.6m) this summer for the Uruguayan international, who has scored 26 goals in 33 appearances in all competitions for his club side this season (transfermarkt).

Nunez is also attracting interest from a host of other clubs including Arsenal, West Ham, Manchester United and Inter Milan.

It would only be natural for Tottenham to have contingency plans in place should Kane look to push for a move away this summer.

Champions League football could be key to keeping Kane satisfied while Antonio Conte will want to retain the services of the England captain if he wants the club to show ambition and prove that he should continue his managerial career at Spurs.
