Report: Spurs hold ‘strong interest’ in £10m-rated defender ahead of January

Football Insider have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur retain a strong interest in Inter Milan centre-back Stefan de Vrij ahead of the January transfer window.

During the summer transfer window, reports indicated that De Vrij was on Tottenham’s radar (CaclioMercatoWeb.it) but the Dutchman stayed put at the San Siro.

However, the 30-year-old’s future remains up in the air, with his current contract with the Nerazzurri running out next summer (Transfermarkt).

Although De Vrij started Inter’s first six Serie A games of the season, he has dropped to the bench over recent weeks.

Football Insider claim that Tottenham explored a deal for the Netherlands international in January of this year but Simone Inzaghi’s side were not willing to sell the player at the time.

The report explains that the North London club continue to hold an interest in De Vrij, with Antonio Conte alleged to be a ‘huge admirer’ of the player.

It is asserted that if the centre-back does not sign a new contract, Inter would be willing to sell him for around £10m in January to avoid losing him for free next summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

The only position where Spurs lack any cover is Eric Dier’s role in the middle of the back three – the same role that De Vrij played perfectly under Conte at Inter. So, if Tottenham do let Tanganga leave in January, a move for the Dutchman would make sense for the North Londoners.
