Report: Spurs hope to convince Conte to sign contract by buying 22-year-old

According to Calciomercato.it, Tottenham Hotspur have stepped up their pursuit of Ajax midfielder Mohammed Kudus at the insistence of Antonio Conte.

Kudus was already seen as one of the best young talents in the Eredivisie in light of his performances for Ajax over the last 12 months and his reputation has been bolstered even further thanks to his performances at the World Cup.

The Sun revealed a few days ago that Spurs are one of the clubs interested in the attacking midfielder, who was allegedly valued by Ajax at £40m ahead of January.

Tottenham’s interest in Kudus has now been backed up CalcioMercato.it, who explain that the North London club’s pursuit of the player is being driven by Conte himself.

The report states that Spurs are ‘ready to spoil the plans’ of both Juventus and AC Milan by beating both clubs to the signature of Kudus.

It is alleged that the Lilywhites hierarchy hope to convince Conte to sign a new contract at the club by pushing through a deal for the Ghanaian.

Finally, the report also adds that the 22-year-old would prefer a move to England over Italy or Spain during the January transfer window.

Kudus’ versatility would make him an excellent fit for Spurs as not only can he play as part of a two-man midfield in a 3-4-3 but he would also provide the needed attacking thrust from the middle of the park when Conte opts for a 3-5-2, something that is perhaps not the strength of Tottenham’s other central midfield options.
