Report: Spurs hopeful defender will sign new long-term deal

Tottenham Hotspur are set to reward Japhet Tanganga for his impressive transition to the senior side with a new contract.

The Daily Mail report that talks between both parties have accelerated since the academy player has broken into the first team.

Jose Mourinho handed the 20-year-old his Premier League debut in the 1-0 defeat to Liverpool last month and impressed up against the likes of Mo Salah and Sadio Mane.

He started in all but one of Tottenham’s fixtures since and has shown his versatility at playing at both full-back and as a central defender.

Tanganga is said to earn £1,000-a-week which looks set to go up to £15,000-a-week, with several bonuses attached to take his earnings to £20,000-a-week.

It was reported that there was some negativity in the player signing a new deal towards the end of last year only for his performances to have changed opinion with the hope a deal will be agreed soon.
