Report: Spurs hopeful of beating Liverpool to Premier League midfielder’s signature

According to a report in Football Insider, Tottenham have ramped up efforts to sign Norwich City midfielder Todd Cantwell.

Cantwell’s performances have been one of the few shining lights for Norwich in the midst of their relegation battle this season.

The Canaries find themselves rooted to the bottom of the table and are seven points off safety, but that has not stopped Cantwell’s attacking quality from shining through.

The Daily Mail reported last month that Spurs were monitoring the 21-year-old, who is said to be valued at £30 million by Norwich.

However, the Athletic revealed a few days later that Liverpool had stepped up their interest in Cantwell and moved ahead of Spurs in the race for the talented youngster.

Football Insider now reports that the Lilywhites are extremely keen on the Canaries star and are ready to match the Reds’ offer.

They will reportedly try and convince him that he is likely to get more first-team football in North London.

It is said that they hope the lure of more first-team opportunities will be enough to convince the talented youngster to pick Spurs over Liverpool.

Spurs Web Opinion

If Cantwell is indeed available for just £30 million, then that might prove too good a deal for the club to turn down. However, I believe an attacking midfielder is certainly not a priority in the summer as we are fairly well stocked in the position. If Norwich do go down, I would prefer us to raid them for Ben Godfrey and Max Aarons.
