Report: Spurs identify 28-year-old as potential Hugo Lloris replacement

The Daily Mail have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have identified West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone as a potential replacement for Hugo Lloris.

Lloris is now into the final year of his contract at Spurs and with the Frenchman turning 35 next month, it remains to be seen whether the North London club offer him a new deal.

Some sources have suggested that the Tottenham skipper is in line to be offered an extension while the player himself has admitted that he will have talks about his future with the club in the near future.

However, Spurs have been linked with various goalkeepers over the past few weeks, with Ajax’s Andre Onana and Everton’s Jordan Pickford mooted as potential targets for Antonio Conte’s men.

The Mail have now revealed that Tottenham are yet to make a final decision on Lloris’ future but they explain there is an acceptance at the club that he might leave in the summer.

Tottenham are thus said to have identified Johnstone as a potential successor to Lloris. In addition, Spurs are also said to be tracking the situation of Dean Henderson, who is allegedly frustrated at Manchester United.

Lloris has shown no evidence of any decline in his form and so offering him a contract extension is a no-brainer for Spurs. So the only way I see the Frenchman leaving is if he rejects a contract and decides that he wants to return to Ligue 1 in the summer.
