Report: Spurs in advanced talks with defender over a long-term deal

Football Insider have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are currently in advanced talks with Dennis Cirkin over a new long term contract, less than a year after the defender penned his first professional contract.

Although he is yet to make a competitive first-team appearance, the left-back has been named on the bench by Jose Mourinho on several occasions and was also heavily involved in the club’s pre-season friendlies this summer.

Before the North Londoners had sealed the capture of Sergio Reguilon from Real Madrid, reports had indicated that Cirkin had been earmarked for a first-team role by Mourinho this season (Guardian).

Football Insider claims that the 18-year-old is thought of very highly by the coaching staff at the club and is expected to challenge for a first-team role in the future.

The youngster penned his first professional contract with Tottenham just last November but he now looks set to commit his long-term future to the club.

The most noticeable aspect of Cirkin’s performances in pre-season was how good he was defensively, especially in one vs one situations. While he is good on the ball, like Tanganga, it is clear that he seems to enjoy the defensive side of the game, which is perhaps why Jose has taken a liking to him.
