Report: Spurs in discussions with agent over £100m deal

Tottenham Hotspur are reported to be in discussions with the agent of Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly.

Italian news outlet Corriere del Mezzogiorno claim that Spurs and rivals Chelsea have both made contact with Koulibaly’s representatives over a potential £100million deal.

A transfer of that magnitude would smash the North London club’s current transfer record which stands at the £53.8million which they paid Lyon to land Tanguy Ndombele last summer (BBC).

The central defender, 28, has built up an impressive reputation in Serie A over the past few seasons.

It was previously reported by the Daily Mail that Jose Mourinho was keen to bring Koulibaly to Manchester United during his time in charge at Old Trafford but failed with a £95million offer last summer.

Opinion

With Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen both on the wrong side of thirty and given their indifferent form this season, Mourinho would be right to look to recruit a world class defender to his squad.

Whether Daniel Levy would sanction a £100million transfer fee for a player who turns 29 in June would be somewhat of a surprise.
