Report: Spurs in for experienced Serie A defender

Tottenham Hotspur are said to be interested in signing Torino defender Nicolas Nkoulou according to reports in the Italian press. The 28-year-old Cameroonian is having a stellar season as the Turin club have conceded only 19 goals in the league so far this year.

According to Italian publication, TUTO Mercato, both Tottenham and Arsenal have expressed an interest in bringing Nkoulou to the Premier League. The report says Arsenal, in particular, are desperate to add more defenders and are hoping to push a deal through this month.

However, with Alderweiereld’s contract having a release clause of £25 million from next summer and with Vertonghen also only contracted at the club until 2020, Tottenham also may need to add one or two experienced defenders to their squad.

However, the report also says that Torino aren’t willing to entertain offers for the player this month and any transfer will have wait until the end of the season.

If Alderweiereld does leave in the summer, Nkoulou will certainly be a perfect replacement owing to his experience and calmness at the back.
