Report: Spurs in ‘pole position’ to land Serie A defender this summer

Tottenham Hotspur are still leading the race to land Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar, according to reports from Italy.

Skriniar has fallen out of favour with Antonio Conte and a possible swap deal with Tanguy Ndombele has been mooted as a possibility this summer (Sky Sports Italia via Sempre Inter).

Reports previously indicated that Jose Mourinho was a big fan of the Slovakian international and was keen to bring him to North London (FC Inter News).

Tuttosport (via Sport Witness) claim that the central defender is expected to leave the San Siro this summer, with Spurs still said to be in pole position to land him.

The report claims that the Ndombele-Skriniar swap deal remains a possibility as it would benefit both clubs economically.

Meanwhile, TuttoMercatoWeb also state that Spurs are keeping the negotiations alive and have not given up hope of signing Skriniar.

They suggest that Conte will not persuade the 25-year-old to stay at Inter amid Tottenham’s interest.

Spurs Web Opinion

Most Spurs fans still seem to hold hope that Ndombele will come good but I would jump at the chance to swap him for Skriniar. I do not doubt that the Frenchman will go on to become a top midfielder but the 25-year-old will make us a much better outfit defensively. If we land Skriniar, I would expect us to quite comfortably finish in the top four next season.
