Report: Spurs in potential five-way fight for Premier League centre-back

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly one of five Premier League clubs looking at Bournemouth centre-back Nathan Ake with interest this January transfer window.

The Netherlands international has emerged as one of the brightest young centre-backs in the league since joining the Cherries and getting regular first-team football.

The Telegraph report that Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City, and Everton are all looking at the defender, setting up a potential January tug-of-war.

This comes as Spurs have really struggled to keep clean sheets of late, Jan Vertonghen has just six months left on his contract, and Alderweireld is on the wrong side of 30. Could Ake be the perfect long-term partner for Davinson Sanchez?

Chelsea are apparently favourites to sign Ake as they have a £40m buy-back clause inserted when they sold him to Bournemouth in 2017.

The Telegraph believe that the existence of this clause may force the Cherries to listen to bids of £45m from rival teams like Spurs.
