Report: Spurs ‘in talks’ to sign experienced new right-back in bargain deal

Tottenham are already in talks to sign Paris Saint Germain right-back, Thomas Meunier, according to the Express.

The Belgian right-back is out of contract with the Ligue 1 champions this summer and is set to look for a free transfer along with teammates Edinson Cavani and Thiago Silva.

The report suggests that Jose Mourinho has been tracking the 28-year-old for a few months now and has targeted him to strengthen the Spurs defence.

Mourinho has already spoken to the right-back, who is represented by super-agent Pini Zahavi, according to the report.

With a tight budget this summer, Spurs are likely to be looking at free agents to bolster their squad and the right-back position is certainly one which needs strengthening.

Meunier joined PSG in 2016 from Club Brugge for a fee of £5.5m but made half of his appearances this season coming off the bench (Transfermarkt).

Long-term, I think we should be looking at the likes of Max Aarons to fill that right-back spot. It may be tricky if Norwich go down and are looking to sell Aarons when we may not have the funds to afford him. So, Meunier could be a good addition on a free transfer for the short-term.
