Report: Spurs in talks with Dutch club over potential deal for 19-year-old full-back

According to Foot Mercato, Tottenham Hotspur are in talks with AZ Alkmaar over a deal for left-back Owen Wijndal.

Tottenham have already strengthened at left wing-back this summer by snapping up Ivan Perisic on a free transfer.

According to reports, Antonio Conte also rates Ryan Sessegnon highly and expects the Croat to mentor the England Under-21 international and help him evolve into a top wing-back (Football.London’s Alasdair Gold).

Foot Mercato have now revealed that Spurs are eyeing a move for another left-back in the form of Wijndal this summer.

The 22-year-old has been one of the stand-out players in his position across the Eredivisie over the last three years and finished the 2021/22 campaign with 10 assists in 31 league appearances (Transfermarkt).

Wijndal has also impressed in international football, having already won eleven caps for the Netherlands.

Foot Mercato claim that the youngster has caught Spurs’ attention and that the North London club are now holding discussions with Alkmaar over a summer deal for the player.

The report adds that Lyon, Napoli and Juventus have also shown an interest in Wijndal this summer.

Some might rubbish this report, considering that we have the left-wing-back role covered between Perisic and Sessegnon. However, Partici and Conte might be looking towards the future and could view Wijndal as someone who can take over from Perisic in a couple of years.
