Report: Spurs in talks with La Liga club regarding £12.3m deal for player

Sport have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are in talks with Barcelona over signing Clement Lenglet permanently.

Lenglet joined Spurs on a season-long loan deal last summer but the North London club do not have the option to make the deal permanent.

Sport suggests that despite Antonio Conte’s departure, the Tottenham hierarchy have been quite pleased with the Frenchman on ‘a personal and professional level’.

The Lilywhites are said to be aware that signing an experienced left-sided defender will be difficult in the current market and are thus willing to snap up the 27-year-old permanently.

It is alleged that the two clubs have already begun talks to complete a deal worth €14m (£12.3m), with Barca happy to cash in on the player since he is not part of the club’s plans.

Sport add that the Lenglet deal is currently being held up due to the ‘institutional crisis’ at Spurs, with Conte having left and Fabio Paratici’s future in doubt.

However, it is asserted that the Premier League club’s decision to keep the former Sevilla man is ‘firm’.

Even though there might be question marks over whether Lenglet is good enough to be a regular starter for us, perhaps the club feel that he can be a useful squad player.

£12m is certainly decent value for a player with the Frenchman’s experience.

However, I doubt Tottenham would be making any transfer decisions at the moment, given the predicament they are in.
