Report: Spurs ‘in the lead’ among Premier League clubs for 24-year-old midfielder

According to CalcioMercato, Tottenham Hotspur have moved ahead of other Premier League clubs in the race for AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie.

Kessie’s future at the San Siro is still up in the air, with the midfielder’s current contract having just six months left to run.

According to previous reports, Antonio Conte has reportedly asked the Tottenham hierarchy to snap up the 24-year-old in January.

Italian journalist Rudi Galetti even claimed last week that Spurs have offered a contract worth €10m-a-year (£8.4m) to Ivory Coast international.

CalcioMercato have stated that there is still a chance that Kessie could stay at Milan.

The report reveals that the midfielder will ‘gladly’ remain with the Rossenieri if the club are prepared to meet his contract demands.

However, it is explained that an agreement is some way off, with both parties remaining ‘firm’ on their positions.

While Kessie is not said to have an agreement in place with any club, it is asserted that Tottenham are ‘in the lead’ among Premier League clubs for the midfielder’s signature.

The report also adds that Paris Saint-Germain have been ‘pressing for months’ for the 24-year-old.

Spurs Web Opinion

I wonder if the performances of Dele and Winks against Liverpool might make Conte rethink Tottenham’s pursuit of Kessie. However, I expect that at least one of Dele, Ndombele or Lo Celso will be moved on in January and Kessie will arguably be an upgrade on all three players.
