Report: Spurs ‘in the lead’ to sign versatile attacker with 10 goal contributions

According to the print edition of Mundo Deportivo (29/04/23 as relayed by Sport Witness), Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race to sign RCD Mallorca’s Lee Kang-in.

Lee has enjoyed an impressive campaign at Mallorca Son Moix Stadium, having scored five and provided five assists in 30 league games so far this season (Transfermarkt).

The versatile attacker, who has featured as an attacking midfielder as well as on either flank this season, is said to have caught the attention of both Atletico Madrid and Tottenham.

Mundo Deportivo mainly focuses on Atletico’s pursuit of Lee, stating that the player caught the Los Rojiblancos’ attention during their recent 3-1 win over Mallorca.

The report says he left a ‘pleasant impression’ on the Madrid club, who have subsequently held talks about the possibility of snapping him up.

However, it is explained that Diego Simeone’s men would need to sell some of their players before they can push ahead with a move for the South Korean.

The publication states that Atletico’s ‘main rival’ comes from the Premier League, where ‘Tottenham are in the lead’ to sign Lee, who is said to have a release clause of €30m (£26.3m) in his contract with Mallorca.

If Tottenham hold a serious interest in Lee, they would not have any issues meeting the player’s release clause and would also be able to offer a much higher salary to the attacker than Atletico could.

Besides, the presence of Son at Spurs could also help convince the 22-year-old to opt for a move to North London over Madrid.
