Report: Spurs in three-way Premier League transfer fight for Atletico Madrid man

Tottenham are one of three sides in the Premier League interested in signing Atletico Madrid winger Yannick Carrasco, according to Fichajes.

The Belgium international could depart Los Rojiblancos this summer as part of a freshen up after finishing third in LaLiga and exiting the Champions League at the quarter-final stage.

Carrasco was linked with an exit in January, with Tottenham rumoured to be interested in a late signing, but a deal failed to materialise after the deadline to meet his €60 million (£51.4m) release clause passed (David Ornstein).

Fichajes has claimed Spurs are continuing to track the 28-year-old, who is valued at €50 million (£43m), but now have been joined in the pursuit by Newcastle and Aston Villa.

The report notes Antonio Conte wants to acquire Carrasco to bolster his options at left wing-back, despite reinforcing the position by bringing in Ivan Perisic, with Sergio Reguilon made available for transfer.

Newcastle have been credited with showing the strongest interest of late as they continue to build ahead of the new season, while Villa want Carrasco to improve their chances of making a push for European football.

Carrasco recorded six goals and assists each in LaLiga this season while being deployed in a plethora of positions by Diego Simeone (Transfermarkt).

Spurs Web Opinion

Carrasco would be a superb option for Tottenham but the price of him may be a big sticking point, while the club has somewhat addressed the area with Perisic already.

He is similar to Perisic in the way that he can play in plenty of positions out wide and on both sides, but Spurs may end up passing on this move with the figures likely to be involved.
