Report: Spurs intend to increase bid for top summer target

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked to a number of high profile European talents in the transfer window so far, as they look to end their 18-month signing drought.

One of the top targets for Pochettino so far this window has to go down as Real Betis’ Giovani Lo Celso, with the BBC reporting that Spurs offered a club record fee of £53m for the attacking midfielder.

Betis turned the offer down as it fell well below the player’s £88m buyout clause, and the deal has gone rather quiet with Lo Celso currently playing at the Copa America.

However, a fresh report has now claimed that Tottenham intend to raise their bid for the playmaker this summer (Estadio Deportivo).

Yesterday, Estadio Deportivo also claimed that Pochettino himself was determined to land Lo Celso before the start of the new season.

Spurs are said to face competition from Atletico Madrid, who has registered the largest bid so far this transfer window.

Spurs Web Opinion:

I honestly can’t see this deal happening unless Christian Eriksen leaves the club, so perhaps that is what Tottenham are waiting on. Paying in the region of £60m-£70m for a playmaker when you already have one of the best in world football wouldn’t make too much sense to me.
