Report: Spurs interest in manager has been ‘overstated’ – But another has been contacted

The Independent have revealed that Tottenham have made contact with Feyenoord head coach Arne Slot but asserted that the club are not as keen on Vincent Kompany as some reports suggest.

The Daily Star revealed a couple of days ago that Tottenham had communicated to Mauricio Pochettino that he is not in consideration for the job, with the North London club said to have narrowed down their shortlist to four candidates.

That list allegedly consists of recently departed Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann and Brentford boss Thomas Frank, as well as both Slot and Kompany.

The Sun even suggested on March 30 that Kompany had shot up to the top of Tottenham’s wishlist, with the Spurs hierarchy said to have been impressed by the way he has transformed the Burnley side since arriving at Turf Moor.

However, The Independent have now contradicted that claim, stating that Tottenham’s interest in the Belgian has been ‘overstated’.

The publication does suggest though that Slot is a serious candidate for the job, with Spurs alleged to have tested the Dutchman’s availability through ‘back channels’.

Spurs Web Opinion

I would be surprised if either Slot or Kompany end up being the club’s top choice as both of them lack experience in a top league and would thus be risky appointments.

While I would personally prefer the club to pull out all the stops to get De Zerbi, I expect one of Enrique or Nagelsmann to be the club’s top target, depending on who Chelsea appoint.
