Report: Spurs’ interest in Serie A player is ‘concrete’ but they need to sell first

According to Italian publication Il Giorno, Tottenham’s interest in Atalanta star in Ruslan Malinovskyi is ‘concrete’.

Malinovskyi has posted numbers that few midfielders in Italy have matched over the last three years and Tutto Atalanta were the first to report earlier this week that Spurs were eyeing a move for the Ukrainian.

The report claimed the North London club want to sign the 29-year-old on an initial loan deal with an option to buy and added that the player is keen on joining Antonio Conte’s side.

Il Giorno have now backed up Tottenham’s interest in Malinovskyi and claim the Lilywhites could push ahead with a move for the attacking midfielder before the transfer window closes.

The report claims that Nottingham Forest previously showed interest in the former Genk star but they were only willing to offer €15m (£12.6m), which fell short of Atalanta’s €18m (£15.2m) valuation.

It is asserted that Spurs may be ready to meet the Serie A club’s asking price for Malinovskyi but would first have to move some players on before making a move for the midfielder.

Spurs Web Opinion

I can see why some Spurs fans on social media might not be uninspired about the Malinovskyi links as the 29-year-old is not as high-profile a superstar as the likes of Zanioloi, Maddison or Milinkovic Savic.

However, all of those three players are likely to cost more than three times the fee that Malinovskyi would, which is a lot for someone who might not be a regular starter.

Conte is only likely to utilise a number 8 when we are chasing a game and has otherwise, shown no inclination to move away from a 3-4-3. Malinovskyi is more likely to accept a bit-part role than the other big-name attackers we have been linked with so far this summer.
