Report: Spurs interested in Copa Libertadores-winning left-back

Tottenham Hotspur are reported to be one of the clubs who are interested in signing Palmeiras left-back Joaquin Piquerez, according to French journalist Marc Mechenoua.

The Goal correspondent claimed on Twitter that French outfit Marseille are also interested in the Uruguayan international, while an unnamed German club also has him on their radar.

Piquerez joined Palmeiras from Uruguayan side Penarol last summer and was part of Brazilian outfit’s Copa Libertadores winning side.

The 23-year-old, who has nine caps for his country is also capable of playing as a central defender or in midfield.

Tottenham already have Ryan Sessegnon and Ivan Perisic as their main options on the left flank and there are other positions in Antonio Conte’s side that need addressing more, such as a creative midfielder and a top-class central defender.

The north Londoners are already at capacity when it comes to non-homegrown players and should be looking to recruit players who are capable of holding down a regular first-team place, rather than purely being there for squad depth.
