Report: Spurs interested in Giovani Lo Celso’s team-mate

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly made contact with Real Betis regarding the availability of another of their players.

Spurs have been heavily linked this summer with a move for their Argentinean playmaker Giovani Lo Celso with the North London club having had a £53 million offer rejected earlier this summer (BBC).

The print edition of Diario de Sevilla reported yesterday (13/7/19) that Tottenham have added Betis left-back Junior Firpo to their potential summer shopping list.

The report claims that Spurs have joined the likes of Liverpool, Real Madrid and Barcelona in registering their interest in the 22-year-old who is available for €30 million

He was born in the Dominican Republic but moved to Malaga at the age of six and had been playing in the lower leagues of Spanish football before Betis came in for him.

Firpo has previously spoken of his desire to remain at Betis, he told Marca:

“Now I’m at Betis, the club of my heart, and I hope to be here for many more years. Interest from other clubs is something you have to live with.

“But I’m happy here, we’re quite close to Malaga; now I just want to enjoy the last few days of my holiday and we’ll see.”

The left-back was part of the Spain side which won the European Under-21 Championships this summer and could potentially be seen as a replacement for Danny Rose.

It was reported by the Daily Mail earlier this month that Rose is one of eight players that Spurs are prepared to sell this summer.
