Report: Spurs interested in keeper after impressing against them

According to a report in the Evening Times, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in singing Gillingham goalkeeper Joe Walsh.

The youngster is said to have impressed the Spurs scouts in attendance during their game against Gillingham, who beat Tottenham’s youngsters 2-0 in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday.

Walsh reportedly put in a impressive performance to keep the Spurs attackers from scoring and as a result is said to be on the Lilywhites’ radar in the upcoming transfer window.

Apart from Spurs, the likes of Everton, Manchester City, Celtic and RB Leipzig are all reportedly interested in landing the teenager.

Jack Bonham remains Gillingham’s first-choice goalkeeper despite Walsh’s impressive recent displays but even he has been left impressed by the youngster’s talent (KentOnline).

Speaking about the teenager, Bonham told the teenager, “He is miles ahead of where I was at that age, so I am sure he will have a very big future ahead of him. He needs to just keep his head down and work like he does.

“I said to him, if he uses (that first game) positively and looks at what went wrong and why, he can move forward from there.

“As a goalkeeper you are going to make mistakes and it could be on your first game, your 100th, your 150th, Players like Loris Karius, David de Gea and Dean Henderson, they all make mistakes. You see the way they come out the next game, it is like water under a bridge, it’s gone.”

Tottenham have had issues in goalkeeping position this season with the club having to re-sign Michel Vorm following a long term injury sustained by Hugo Lloris.

Spurs Web Opinion

With Hugo Lloris seemingly coming to the end of his Spurs career, it is vital that we bring in a young and talented goalkeeper in the next couple of windows. However, for the moment, I still believe Hugo deserves the No.1 shirt over Paulo Gazzaniga despite the Frenchaman’s lack of form recently.
