Report: Spurs interested in signing £20m-rated Nice midfielder

According to a report in the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Nice midfielder Wylan Cyprien this month.

The 24-year-old has been in sensational form for the Ligue 1 club this season having notched up seven goals and four assists in all competitions so far (transfermarkt).

The report claims that Nice are ready to part ways with Cyprien for around £20 million this month.

Spurs are not the only club reportedly interested in the Frenchman though, with Newcastle United also said to have made an enquiry about the midfielder. The report claims that Steve Bruce will ask Mike Ashley to sanction a move for Cyprien in the coming days.

Tottenham have been short of options in the central midfield areas due to injuries to Tanguy Ndombele and Moussa Sissoko, with the latter expected to sidelined for a considerable portion of what’s left of the season.

Tottenham announced the capture of Gelson Fernandes from Benfica on Wednesday morning on an 18-month loan deal with the option to make the deal permanent.

With the capture of Fernandes now confirmed, I don’t think another central midfielder is a priority for Spurs in this window. The club needs to prioritize a move for a centre forward to help cope with Kane’s unavailability while the full-back areas also look like they are in need of considerable strengthening.
