Report: Spurs interested in signing left-back from top-four rival in the summer

Tottenham Hotspur have an issue at left-back under Jose Mourinho, with there being no stand out choice in North London for the position.

Danny Rose, who had held the first-team spot for a number of years, went out on loan to Newcastle in January after being dropped repeatedly by Mourinho.

Ryan Sessegnon has featured in the position regularly in the past month, but is still a very raw talent at just 19-years old.

Jan Vertonghen and Japhet Tanganga also both offer options at left-back, despite being centre-backs by trade. Finally, Ben Davies recently made a return to first-team training.

However, the Daily Express now claim that a new left-back may be on the agenda for Mourinho and Levy in the summer, as Spurs are apparently interested in Ben Chilwell.

Chilwell has been in superb form over the past two years, and now looks set to finish in the top four with Leicester, as well as heading to the Euros as England’s first choice.

The report adds that Chilwell may be unwilling to leave if the Foxes do achieve Champions League football for next season.

Spurs Web Opinion:

Do Spurs need a new left-back? Most definitely. Will they be able to afford Chilwell? I doubt it. Will he want to move to Spurs from a high-flying Leicester side? Probably not. Spurs may have to look elsewhere for a cheaper option.
