Report: Spurs interested in signing player set to leave Real Madrid on a free

CalcioMercato have claimed that Tottenham are one of a whole host of clubs interested in signing Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio.

Since his move from Mallorca to Madrid as a teenager in 2014, Asensio has gone on to make 239 appearances for Los Blancos, having scored 50 goals and provided 24 assists (Transfermarkt).

The winger has very much been relegated to a bit-part role under Carlo Ancelotti recently, coming on as a substitute for all four of his appearances this season (Transfermarkt).

CalcioMercato claim that the 26-year-old has decided not to renew his contract with Real Madrid and is set to leave when his current deal runs out next summer.

The report reveals that Asensio will be able to sign a pre-contract agreement with interested clubs from February of next year and is currently exploring his options.

While CalcioMercato primarily concentrates on Juventus’ pursuit of the Spain international, they reveal that Spurs, Arsenal, Liverpool, AC Milan, and Barcelona are also on the player’s trail.

It is explained that Asensio is expected to demand a salary of €7m (£6.1m) per year to sign on the dotted line.

Spurs Web Opinion

Asensio fits the profile of a Conte player, given his engine, versatility and tactical flexibility. If the 26-year-old does become available for free next summer, one would expect Spurs to explore a potential deal for the experienced wide-man.
