Report: Spurs interested in signing Real Madrid player on a free transfer

Football Insider have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are tracking Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio ahead of the summer transfer window.

Asensio has been a fantastic servant for Real Madrid since first arriving at the club in 2016, having played 264 times for Los Blancos, scoring 55 times and providing 29 assists (Transfermarkt).

However, the Spaniard has been used sparingly by Carlo Ancelotti this season and his current contract at the Santiago Bernabeu runs out in June.

The Mirror reported last week that Asensio is not part of Ancelotti’s plans and that the Italian does not care if the player signs a new contract or leaves.

Football Insider have now revealed that Spurs are keeping tabs on the winger’s situation and could consider offering him a contract in the summer.

The report states that Lucas Moura’s departure in the summer could open the door for the 27-year-old to arrive at Hotspur Way.

The publication adds that Tottenham could face competition from Arsenal and Manchester United for the Real Madrid star’s signature.

It looks fairly unlikely that Tottenham would take up the option to sign Danjuma permanently. I also suspect that Bryan Gil would push for a permanent move away from the club in the summer.

So, Tottenham are likely to enter the market for at least one, maybe two, attacking reinforcements in the summer and Asensio would be a tempting option, given that he is set to be available on a free.
