Report: Spurs ‘interested’ in star who would fill ‘perfect position’ under Conte

According to a report from Italian outlet Mondo Udinese, Tottenham are stepping up their interest in Brazilian centre-back Rodrigo Becao, and with his contract running out, his current club Udinese are beginning to worry about losing him on the cheap.

Becao joined Udinese in the summer of 2019 and has now made 111 appearances for the Serie A side, scoring five goals along the way (Transfermarkt).

The 26-year-old has struggled with injury this season, limiting him to just nine appearances in all competitions, with one goal and one assist to his name (Transfermarkt).

Nevertheless, the Brazilian has been catching the eye when he does feature. The strong, commanding centre-half has attracted attention from Spurs already (Tutto Udinese), with Inter Milan thought to be joining the race (Messaggero Veneto).

Since then, Tutto Udinese also claimed other Premier League clubs such as Arsenal and Everton, as well as Serie A club Torino, were all interested in acquiring his services.

The latest report from Mondo Udinese suggests it is Tottenham who are pursuing a deal with the most enthusiasm right now, though. Spurs are thought to be one of the “interested teams” and it has been suggested that Becao would “occupy a perfect position” in Antonio Conte’s system.

Mondo Udinese claim that with just 18 months left on his contract, there is growing fear that Udinese will have to let Becao go for cheap and they are doing all they can to avoid losing him for “an affordable price.”

The report also names West Ham as one of the teams looking at Becao, along with Everton and Inter Milan who we already knew about.

These reports do seem to be adding up and becoming more commonplace, and we know how much Fabio Paratici enjoys scouring Serie A for talent to add to Conte’s team. With his contract running down and concrete interest appearing to come from Spurs, this is definitely a player to watch.
