Report: Spurs interested in three playmakers from Real Madrid and Barcelona

The Daily Mail have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur still retain an interest in Barcelona duo Philippe Coutinho and Ivan Rakitic, as well as Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez.

The report claims that Coutinho is set for crunch talks with new Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman, after which he will make a decision on his future.

It is revealed that Tottenham, Arsenal, and Chelsea have all registered their interest in the Brazilian but it is suggested that his price tag and wages may prove to be a problem.

Meanwhile, it is revealed that Rakitic’s initial preference was to stay in Spain and return to Sevilla but, with his former club yet to show any interest, he could be open to a move to the Premier League.

Spurs and Arsenal are both said to be interested in the Croatian international, who is apparently available for just £9million.

Rodriguez is also said to be keen on a move to England but it is revealed that the Lilywhites face competition from the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Everton, Newcastle, and Wolves for the Real Madrid man’s signature.

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not see any of these three as realistic targets for us. Rodriguez does not really fit the mould of what Mourinho likes in a number ten and so I cannot see us going for him. Rakitic could be an option as a short-term fix if we lose Ndombele but it does not seem like the Frenchman is on his way out. Coutinho’s wages and rumoured loan fee rules out any chance of us taking a punt on the former Liverpool star.
