Report: Spurs interested in versatile midfielder who is ‘very likely’ to leave

According to Sky Germany’s Transfer Show, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in snapping up Hoffenheim midfielder Florian Grillitsch.

Grillitsch, who primarily operates as a defensive midfielder but can also fill in at centre-back, has come on leaps and bounds since joining Hoffenheim from Werder Bremen in 2017.

However, the Austrian international’s future is at the Rhein Neckar Arena is in doubt as his current deal runs out next summer.

The midfielder admitted last month that he wants to leave the Bundesliga club when his contract comes to an end.

Sky Germany have now revealed that Grillitsch is ‘very, very likely’ to leave Hoffenheim, with the midfielder said to be keen on playing for a ‘top team’.

Tottenham are said to be keen on completing a deal for the Austrian but it is explained that it is unclear whether Spurs want to sign him in January or wait until the summer to snap him up as a free agent.

Newcastle United and AS Roma also reportedly hold an interest in Grillitsch.

Grillitsch’s versatility would make him a decent squad option to have as the Austrian would be capable of slotting into midfielder or in either side of the central sweeper in Conte’s back three. However, the jury is out on whether the 26-year-old would be an upgrade on any of the options we have in those positions.
