Report: Spurs interested in World Cup finalist whose price will drop to £44m in summer

Mundo Deportivo have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are one of four clubs eyeing a move for Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele next summer.

Dembele has managed to turn around his Barca career over the last six months and had a strong start to the 2022-23 campaign, with five goals and seven assists across all competitions so far (Transfermarkt).

Although the 25-year-old had a World Cup final to forget, being taken off by Didier Deschamps after just 40 minutes, he was one of France’s best players in the tournament overall.

Mundo Deportivo claim that the former Borussia Dortmund star’s displays in Qatar have caught the attention of several clubs. It is said that Tottenham, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Wolves are all eyeing a summer move for the winger.

The report adds that the four clubs are particularly encouraged by the fact that Dembele’s release will drop from its current value of €100m (£87.2m) to just €50m (£43.6) next summer.

However, Mundo Deportivo add that Barcelona have no intention of selling the France international either in January or next summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

Dembele’s talent has never been in doubt and his attributes will make him a useful asset to any squad.

However, the 25-year-old does not strike me as a Conte kind of player, given the work rate and discipline the Italian demands off the ball and the attitude he expects on the training ground.

I do not think Spurs will consider a move for the Barca star unless they are convinced that he has turned a corner and put his disciplinary issues behind him.
