Report: Spurs join PL clubs in race for striker with 30 goals this season

Football Insider have claimed that Brentford striker, Ivan Toney is on Tottenham’s radar ahead of the summer transfer window.

Toney has gone from strength to strength since being let go by Newcastle United for just £350,000 three years ago.

After two prolific seasons at Peterborough, the striker was snapped up by Brentford last summer and had big shoes to fill, with Ollie Watkins departing the Bees to sign for Aston Villa.

Toney has out-performed expectations considerably in his first season in the Championship, having notched up 30 goals and 10 assists for Thomas Frank’s side so far this campaign.

Football Insider now claim that Tottenham are on the lookout for a striker this summer, having decided against making Carlos Vincius’ loan deal permanent.

It is revealed that Toney is one of the options Spurs are considering moving for, having been impressed by his performances at the Brentford Community Stadium this season.

However, the report adds that Spurs are hardly the only Premier League club who are interested in Toney’s services and that the North Londoners could face plenty of competition for the 25-year-old.

I just cannot see a top-quality striker like Andrea Belotti or Danny Ings wanting to come to Spurs if Kane stays as they know they are going to be restricted to a bit-part role.

The best we might be able to hope for is to take a punt on someone like Toney in the hope that he would be able to make the step up to the Premier League just as the likes of Watkins and Bamford have this season.
