Report: Spurs join race to sign highly rated defender

According to a report by Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur have joined the race for Glasgow Rangers rising star Leon King and have added him to their radar ahead of the January transfer window.

The 15-year-old centre half, who is regarded as one of the brightest young talents north of the border has reportedly rejected Rangers’ offer of a first professional contract, leaving his future at the club in doubt.

The report claims that a source from within Tottenham have revealed that the club are now set to make a major play for King following his contract rejection.

Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and, Tottenham’s Champions League round of 16 opponents RB Leipzig are also said to be following the teenager’s situation closely.

The Scotland Under-17 international is considered one of the best in his age group in Britain and it is revealed that Rangers fear that an approach could be made for his services.

Spurs Web Opinion

We are continuing to be linked with a lot of young talent in the past few weeks which seems to suggest that the club will not change their transfer policy of buying young players with potential despite Mourinho’s appointment. It will be interesting to see if the strategy will bear fruit given the new Tottenham head coach is arguably not as keen on helping young players develop as Pochettino was.
