Report: Spurs keen on wantaway World Cup winner along with Chelsea and Man United

Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez is reported to be keen to leave this summer with Tottenham Hotspur one of the clubs keen on his services, according to Gaston Edul on Twitter.

Chelsea and Manchester United are also said to be interested in the shot-stopper who impressed during Argentina’s successful campaign at the World Cup last winter.

Martinez moved to Villa Park from Arsenal on a four-year deal back in September 2020 and has been a key part of the resurgence shown by Unai Emery’s side following his arrival which now sees them potentially battling it out with Tottenham for Europa Conference League qualification.

The future of Tottenham’s current number one Hugo Lloris is currently under question with the Frenchman reportedly being offered the chance to treble his salary in Saudi Arabia this summer (The Times).

Lloris is out of contract with Tottenham in the summer of 2024 and while it is said he is happy at the club, he would not be prepared to stay if he became their second choice option in goal (The Athletic).

Martinez is expected to take his place in goal for Villa on Saturday afternoon when they host Spurs in the Premier League clash whuch could prove to be crucial in deciding where both teams finish in the table this season.

SpursWeb Opinion

Martinez is a good goalkeeper, especially with the ball at his feet.  However, I would prefer to see Tottenham move for Brentford’s David Raya who is equally adept.

We have seen before that the Argentine players priortise country before club and are happy to jet off for a fixture in South America despite not receiving the green light from their club.
