Report: Spurs keen to tie first-team star to new contract to ward off transfer interest

ESPN have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur want to offer Son Heung-min a new contract as the South Korean is attracting interest from the Saudi Pro League.

With Harry Kane having departed and Hugo Lloris being relegated to a peripheral role, Son is not only the club captain and one of the longest-serving members of the squad but he is also very much the face of the club.

Last week, Football Insider reported that Tottenham want to offer the South Korean a new bumped contract, which includes a pay rise to reflect his importance as captain.

The outlet explained that while the Lilywhites will initially activate the clause in his current contract to extend it for a further year (until 2026), they are also now ready to speak to his representatives about a long-term deal.

The publication added that the 31-year-old is ready to commit as he is thrilled by the impact of Ange Postecoglou and is eager to play a key role in the club’s future.

Saudi interest in Tottenham’s Heung-min Son

This has now been backed up by ESPN, who also say that Tottenham are now ready to offer a contract with improved terms to their captain.

It is explained that Spurs are aware that Son is attracting interest from Saudi Arabia and want to tie him down to a new deal so that they can resist any mega offers from the Middle East.

It is evident that Son is loving life under Ange and is enjoying the additional leadership responsibility. There is no chance that he would consider moving to Saudi Arabia at this stage of his career but Tottenham would want to swiftly tie him down just in case his head is turned by a humungous offer.
