Football Insider have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are keeping ‘close tabs’ on Ivan Toney as Brentford hold talks with the striker regarding a new contract.
Toney has been a revelation since Brentford won promotion to the top flight, with the striker having found the back of the net 26 times in 55 Premier League matches, which includes 14 goals in 20 league appearances this season.
The striker’s current deal at the Brentford Community Stadium runs until the summer of 2025 and Football Insider have now stated that the Bees have begun talks to tie him down to a new contract.
It is explained that Toney currently earns £30,000 per week and Thomas Frank’s men are willing to offer him £50,000 per week, which would make him the highest earner at the club.
However, the publication asserts that Spurs are keeping an eye on the situation and could decide to make a move for the 26-year-old in the summer.
Spurs Web Opinion
I think Toney would only be a realistic target for Tottenham if Kane leaves in the summer as I do not think the Brentford star would want to come to Spurs and play second fiddle to the England captain.
A lot of other Premier League clubs, including Manchester United and Chelsea, could be in the market for a centre-forward next summer. So, it will not be easy for Tottenham to snap up Toney even if he is on the market.
