Report: Spurs lead West Ham and Everton in the race for striker

Portuguese outlet O Jogo have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race to sign Benfica striker Haris Seferovic this summer.

Seferovic had an impressive campaign at Lisbon last season, netting 26 goals in all competitions and he took that form into the European Championships, scoring thrice as Switzerland made it to the quarter-final, where they lost to Spain in a penalty shootout.

O Jogo report that the 29-year-old’s performances at the Euros have caught the eyes of several clubs, including Tottenham.

It is explained that Benfica are open to cashing in on the striker and whilst they currently value him at around €25m (£21.5m), they are open to negotiating for lower amounts.

Spurs are said to be facing competition from both West Ham and Everton for the Swiss international but it is alleged that the Lilywhites are currently at the front of the queue.

The report adds that Benfica have not received any concrete offer for Seferovic yet but expect that to change over the coming days.

Spurs Web Opinion

As we saw with Carlos Vinicius, being prolific in the Portuguese league is no guarantee of success in the Premier League. Seferovic could potentially be a useful plan B if we can sign him as a backup to Kane but it remains to be seen if the 29-year-old would want to come to Spurs knowing he would play second fiddle to the England captain.
