Report: Spurs leading race for midfielder, set to step up efforts next week

According to The Daily Express, Tottenham Hotspur are now leading the race to sign AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie and are set to make an early move for the midfielder.

Kessie’s contract at Milan runs out at the end of the season and the midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham over the last couple of months.

Sources from Italy had previously reported that Spurs and Paris Saint-Germain were leading the race for the Ivory Coast international.

However, The Express have explained that the North Londoners are now at the front of the queue for the 24-year-old after Antonio Conte earmarked the player as a priority signing.

The report reveals that Kessie has informed Milan that he will be leaving the San Siro when his contract runs out next summer.

The midfielder will be eligible to talk to overseas clubs from January and could sign a pre-contract agreement ahead of a summer move.

It is said that Kessie is also attracting interest from Arsenal and Manchester United but Spurs are said to be plotting to push ahead with a move for the Milan star next week.

It will be interesting to see if Spurs look to complete a January deal for Kessie or if they want to strike an agreement with the midfielder next month ahead of a free transfer in the summer.

One would assume that Milan would want to cash in on Kessie in January to avoid losing him for free. However, the player has a lot of power in this situation and he might prefer a summer transfer.
