Report: Spurs legend to become available on a free transfer this month

Tottenham Hotspur legend, Aaron Lennon will become a free agent at the end of June after rejecting a contract extension with Burnley, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic.

Lennon joined the Clarets in January 2018 from Everton for £1.5m but now faces a search for a new club at the end of the month (Transfermarkt).

Many players across the Premier League who are due to run out of contract this month have been asked to put pen to paper on extensions until the season is complete (ESPN).

However, some players such as Lennon and Bournemouth’s Ryan Fraser have rejected the opportunity of an extension.

The 33-year-old joined Spurs in 2005 from Leeds United and remained in North London for 10 years where he quickly became a fan favourite.

Ornstein has insisted Lennon has attracted suitors from not just England but as far away as Brazil.

Lennon is “attracting transfer interest from the UK, Turkey and Brazil,” said The Athletic journalist.

Spurs Web Opinion

I think a move to a team in the Championship, perhaps similar to what Wayne Rooney has done in joining Derby County could be a great move for Lennon. He isn’t likely to play on a frequent basis for a Premier League side anymore and I feel he could still do a job for a decent Championship side.
