Report: Spurs like 24-year-old PL star but think he will be too expensive

The Athletic have revealed that while Tottenham Hotspur are big fans of Alexander Isak, they feel that a deal for the Newcastle United star would be too difficult to pull off this summer.

Isak has emerged as one of the most feared number nines in the Premier League since his move to Newcastle two years ago and there have been some rumours over the past couple of months suggesting that Tottenham have been lining up a sensational move for the Swede.

Tottenham are still yet to replace Harry Kane

Football Insider claimed back in April that the Lilywhites had identified the Magpies star as someone who could fill the void left by Harry Kane’s departure.

Subsequently, The Sun stated that Newcastle might have to sacrifice the centre-forward this summer, given their FFP issues and suggested that they are bracing themselves for offers from both Spurs and Arsenal for their star mam.

However, only last month, journalist Graeme Bailey told TBR Football that the Magpies have no intention of losing the striker and are confident that he will remain at St James’ Park.

Tottenham are admirers of Alexander Isak

The Athletic have now become the latest outlet to report on Tottenham’s interest in Isak, with the report stating that there is ‘an admiration’ for the former Real Sociedad man at the North London club.

The report backs up what we have heard from other sources by stating that Richarlison could be sold by Ange Postecoglou’s side and the club might thus need to enter the market for a number nine.

However, it is explained that there is a realisation at Hotspur Way that Isak would prove quite ‘expensive’ and that the deal would be ‘tough’ to complete.

Isak is not a realistic target for Tottenham, with the striker seemingly happy at Newcastle and with Eddie Howe’s men not particularly keen on selling him.

It is going to likely take an offer in the £80m-£100m range for the Magpies to consider a sale of their star man.
