Report: Spurs line up Ndombele replacement as European giants eye Frenchman

According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, Tottenham Hotspur have identified RB Leipzig midfielder Marcel Sabitzer as a replacement for Tanguy Ndombele, who is being sought after by Barcelona.

Ndombele had a poor first season at Tottenham as he struggled for game time under Jose Mourinho and seemed to have fallen out with the Spurs boss.

The Frenchman was linked with a move to Barcelona in the summer (Independent) but he ended up staying in North London.

Tottenham’s decision to hang on to the 23-year-old certainly appears to have been the right call as he has had a much bigger impact this season, having established himself as a regular in the Spurs side.

Ndombele admitted earlier this season that he and Mourinho have put their problems behind them and that he is focused on doing his best for the club.

However, if Mundo Deportivo are to be believed, Ndomebele could be on his way to the Nou Camp next summer, with Barcelona having prioritised a move for the former Lyon man.

The report suggests that Spurs will be open to allowing the France international leave as long as they could snap up Sabitzer for around £45m, with Mourinho being an admirer of the Austrian international.

Spurs Web Opinion

Given the season Ndombele is having, Levy will probably demand a fee considerably higher than the £55m we paid Lyon for his services in 2019. Barcelona are unlikely to be in a position to afford him given the financial problems they are currently facing. So this report sounds like baseless speculation.
