Report: Spurs’ link to 20-goal midfielder could depend on managerial appointment

Tottenham Hotspur could make a move for Porto midfielder Sergio Oliveira this summer according to Portuguese news outlet O Jogo.

The report claims that Tottenham’s intention to bid for the 29-year-old could depend on whether Nuno Espirito Santo is appointed as the club’s new head coach due to the assistance of super agent Jorge Mendes, who represents the player.

Espirito Santo is also a client of Mendes (Football.London) and the link could help to faciliate a transfer.

The midfielder was in impressive form for Porto last season having scored twenty goals and provided seven assists in 48 appearances in all competitions (transfermarkt).

Jose Mourinho’s Roma along with fellow Serie A outfit Juventus are both keen on the Portuguese international who is under contract until 2025, having signed a contract extension in December of last year.

Goals from midfield have been desperately lacking from the Spurs squad for some time, however scoring 20 goals in Liga Nos is a completely different challenge to the Premier League.
