Report: Spurs-linked attacker could eventually be available for free this summer

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that rumoured Tottenham target Memphis Depay is in talks with Barcelona over potentially terminating his contract.

Depay has been linked with a move to Spurs by Spanish publications this summer, with Sport reporting last month that Antonio Conte’s men had presented an offer to the Dutchman’s representatives.

AS subsequently revealed that Xavi Hernandez has informed the Netherlands international that he will not get any game time at Camp Nou this season if he chooses to stay at the club after the Catalan giants’ acquisition of Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha.

The report asserted that Barca were hoping to sell the forward for around €20m (£16.7m) to a Premier League club.

Romano has now taken to social media to suggest that there is ‘no way’ for Barca to get such a fee for Depay this summer.

The club are now said to be in talks with the former Manchester United man’s lawyers over paying off the 12 months that are left on his contract so the forward would become a free agent.

The journalist also adds that Depay would only consider a switch to a ‘top club’ this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

I would have happily taken Depay at Tottenham had we not signed Richarlison. However, it is now difficult to see where he would fit in at the club. Even if Spurs were interested, I doubt the 28-year-old would want to join the north London club and warm the bench.
