Report: Spurs-linked attacker ‘stripped of’ squad number at current club

As per TalkSport, Barcelona forward Memphis Depay has been ‘stripped of’ his shirt number, with the number nine being handed to Robert Lewandowski.

With Lewandowski swapping Bayern Munich for Barca in a deal worth around £42.5 million (Sky Sports), Depay’s future has been cast into doubt in recent weeks.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has claimed the Dutchman had been approached by three Premier League clubs earlier this summer, with Xavi Hernandez reportedly telling Depay that he is no longer part of his plans for next season (Marca).

Spanish outlet SPORT have credited both Newcastle United and Spurs with an interest in the 28-year-old, who has netted 13 goals in 37 appearances for the Catalonians (Transfermarkt).

Sport reported recently that Spurs had presented an offer to Depay’s representatives, while Gerard Romero (as relayed by Fichajes) suggested Barca were considering a swap deal involving Depay and Sergio Reguilon.

As per TalkSport, there may be further reason for Depay to seek new pastures, with landmark signing Lewandowski set to steal the former Lyon man’s number nine shirt.

Spurs Web Opinion

With Barca now needing to sell players due to the crazy number of incoming signings they have made, I feel as though Depay is likely to leave the Spotify Camp Nou.

However, I can’t really see him at Spurs. Although he would provide cover in a couple of positions, he doesn’t strike me as a Conte player and I feel as though there are better options available.
