Report: Spurs-linked attacking midfielder asks to leave Ligue 1 club

According to L’Equipe, rumoured Tottenham target Lucas Paqueta has asked to leave Lyon this summer.

Tottenham have already completed five signings so far this summer, with Djed Spence expected to be the sixth player to arrive through the door this summer (Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham podcast).

According to reports, that will not be the end of Spurs’ shopping spree, with the club also said to be on the lookout for a creative midfielder (Evening Standard).

Paqueta is rumoured to be one of the names on Antonio Conte’s radar, with BeSoccer even claiming last month that the Lilywhites would be willing to meet Lyon’s €50m (£42.8m) asking price for the attacking midfielder.

L’Equipe have now revealed that the Brazilian, who scored 11 goals and registered seven assists across all competitions in 2021/22 (Transfermarkt), has made up his mind to leave the Groupama Stadium this summer.

The report suggests that even though Paqueta featured in Lyon’s pre-season friendly against third-tier club Bourg-en-Bresse on Saturday, the Ligue 1 club are ready to sell him if they receive a suitable offer.

L’Equipe add that Lyon rejected an approach from Newcastle United for the 24-year-old in January and the Magpies have rekindled their interest in the Brazil international this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

The fact that Spurs decided not to push ahead with a move for Christian Eriksen suggests that the North London club have other options in mind for the attacking midfielder role. I would not be surprised that Paqueta’s name is at the top of Conte’s and Paratici’s wishlist.
