Report: Spurs-linked central-back could now stay at club after teammate retires

Tottenham-linked defender Evan Ndicka could stay at Eintracht Frankfurt following the sudden retirement of teammate Martin Hinteregger, according to Kicker.

Spurs have been in the market to land a left-sided central defender this summer to offer Antonio Conte more options ahead of the new campaign (Football.London).

Foot Mercato previously reported Spurs were the frontrunners to land the 22-year-old Ndicka, who has emerged as one of the Bundesliga’s most talented defenders over the last couple of seasons.

However, Tottenham’s chase for the France youth international may have hit a snag after a turn of events in the Frankfurt squad.

German outlet Kicker report the shock retirement of Hinteregger, 29, could now block the planned sale of Ndicka, who is warming to the idea of staying with the reigning Europa League champions.

However, the report states Frankfurt are wary of Ndicka having just one year remaining on his current deal and are not keen to lose the talented defender for nothing.

Spurs Web Opinion

Ndicka enjoyed a fine season at Frankfurt and would be a fine option for Tottenham, for both the present and the future.

Frankfurt have been left in a bit of a strange situation given they have just lost one defender from their squad, but it is unsurprising they don’t want to lose one of their prodigies for no fee.
