Report: Spurs-linked centre-back could be sold in January against his wishes

Marca have revealed that rumoured Tottenham target Clement Lenglet does not wish to leave Barcelona next month but the Catalan club may decide to cash in on him anyway.

Lenglet lost his place in Barca’s starting eleven under Ronald Koeman but the centre-back has been handed more opportunities since Xavi Hernandez replaced the Dutchman at the helm.

Spanish journalist Gerard Romero claimed last week that the French international is one of the names on Tottenham’s radar ahead of the January transfer window.

He revealed that Spurs failed to land the 26-year-old in the summer and were set to reignite their interest in the defender next month.

However, the centre-back’s agent has since denied any knowledge of Tottenham’s interest in his client (Mundo Deportivo as relayed by Sport Witness).

Marca now report that Barca’s main objective in January is to make room on the wage bill for new signings by offloading some players.

The report explains that Lenglet wishes to stay at Camp Now and fight for his place under Xavi. However, it is asserted that if the La Liga giants might decide to let the centre-back go if they receive a big offer for him.

Spurs Web Opinion

The speculation linking Spurs with the likes of Lenglet and De Ligt over recent weeks, suggests that Conte views signing a left-centre-back as a priority.

That certainly makes sense given that Ben Davies lacks any real competition for his place in the side, with Tanganga and Sanchez being better suited to the right-centre-back role.
